Warrensburg soccer looking for goal scorers in 2019

WARRENSBURG — The Warrensburg girls soccer team is looking for a goal scorer. The Lady Tigers head into the 2019 season without their three leading scorers from a year ago.

“We lost our three top scorers, so we are looking to build people up there,” Warrensburg coach Bryan Olivas said. “We have the talent to replace them. It might not be the same, but we will be alright.”

The lone returner goal-getter for Warrensburg is sophomore Payton Heevner, who scored eight goals as a freshman.

“She will be one we rely on as an attacking midfielder,” Olivas said.

Also bolstering the Lady Tigers attack is new-comer sophomore Tabby Boldt. The two-time state cross country qualifier will bring some speed to the left side of the Warrensburg’s front three as a naturally left-footed striker.

On the back side of the defense, sophomore Gen Miller returns between the pipes as the Lady Tigers goalkeeper. Miller recorded seven shutouts and 132 saves as a freshman.

“She has one year under her belt,” Olivas said. “If she was nervous or needed to get something out that first year, she got it out.”

Olivas hopes this year’s group can ‘build off of last season” after securing a district runner-up finish and a 14-7 record in his first year at the helm.

This will be Warrensburg’s first foray into the Missouri River Valley Conference for girls soccer.

The Lady Tigers will also have some new faces in the district tournament, moving to the Class 3 District 13 bracket featuring Bolivar, Grandview and Harrisonville.
