WARRENSBURG — Expectations are a tricky thing for Warrensburg golf.

The Tigers enter the 2019 with three members returning from last year’s third place district squad, but are without their state qualifier Ty Carter.

But Warrensburg has an ace up their sleeve by way of Mexico.

Junior foreign exchange student Ander Ibarra, the winner of the 2018 Copa de Morelos in Morelia, Mexico, joins the Tigers.

“What he brings is one a lot of experience,” Warresburg coach Dave Liebnitz said. “He has played a lot of golf and a lot of competitive golf and there is a difference. Two, he brings a really good work ethic. He really likes the game and likes to practice and you can kind of see that rubbing off on the guys.”

Ibarra will slot into the Tigers line-up with senior Nolan Champman, junior Andrew Bailey and sophomores Brooks Baldwin and Jackson Nimmo.

“We should have depth, that should be our strength,” Liebnitz said.

Warrensburg heads into the Missouri River Valley Conference for the first time this season, coming off a runner-up finish in the West Central Conference tournament a year ago.
