Warrensburg advances 15 to state, more possible

Warrensburg senior Colton Palmer runs in the 1,600m race at the Class 4 Sectional 4 meet on Saturday, May 18, in Odessa.

The Class 4 Sectional 4 meet, run in conjunction with the Class 3 Section 4 meet, was postponed Saturday, May 18, with a handful of events remaining due to inclement weather.

The remaining events - both classes boys and girls 3,200m and 4x400m along with the Class 4 boys and girls pole vault and both classes girls high jump - will take place Monday, May 20, with the field events starting at 10 a.m. and the track portion beginning at noon.

Warrensburg managed to get 15 athletes in 12 events through to the final meet of the season - eight on the boys side and seven on the girls side - before sectionals was halted.

Junior Libby Brown advanced in all three of her events, winning the 200m in 26.24 and taking fourth in both the 100m and 300m hurdles.

Both of the VanBlarcum sisters will make their second trip to the state meet in the javelin. Paige finished third with a throw of 130’ and Brandi in fourth at 122’8”. Paige also advanced in the shot put, taking fourth with a throw of 38’6”.

The Lady Tigers 4x800m squad - seniors April Holland and Hannah Schirenbeck along with sophomore Tabby Boldt and freshman Olivia Burson - finished fourth with a time of 9:56.43.

Boldt and Holland both qualified individually as well with the sophomore taking fourth in the 1,600m and the senior coming in fourth in the 800m.

On the boys side, senior Colton Palmer punched his ticket in the 1,600m with a time of 4:29.95.

Junior Joseph Stewart took second in the 110m hurdles, clocking a time of 15.26.

Warrensburg’s 4x100m team of sophomores Conner Wyatt and Shelby Pittsenbarger along with juniors Miles Moore and Corbin Cowick put together a 43.74 in the 400m relay for a second place finish.

The Tigers advanced two boys in from the field as junior Carter Bell took third in the high jump, clearing 6’3” and junior Ayden McGee finishing third in the triple jump at 43’1 1/2”.

Warrensburg state hopefuls competing Monday are: Gabby Hoke in the pole vault; Dylan Godfrey and John Stoverink in the pole vault; Allie Griffiths in the 3,200m; Palmer in the 3,200m; and the Lady Tigers 4x400m group.
