“Makes the competition in practice good,” Warrensburg coach Chris Nimmo said. “I think that we have several girls that have the potential to play really well on any given day and to shoot lower numbers than we did last year.”

Warrensburg returns a majority of its varsity roster from 2017 in seniors Kayla Kimbley, Natalie Fatka, Anna Jaeger; juniors Montana Carter, Ally Hassler; and freshman Kenzie Hockersmith.

“We have a good team coming back,” Nimmo said. “We think we can have a good run at the end of the year.”

Nimmo said newcomer senior Makaylan Misner will also vie for varsity time this season.

He said the team will look to Kimbley, Fatka and Jaeger to help guide the younger players.

“They have all played a lot in the off-season and they are all three better than they were last year,” Nimmo said.

The team graduated senior Lauren Snare last year.

Kimbley and Fatka return state experience to the roster this year.

Kimbley has been to the state tournament all three years of high school, and Fatka made an appearance her sophomore season.

Kimbley represented Warrensburg last season.

“They have played in big matches and have played for titles,” Nimmo said.

Nimmo also noted the off-season work of the sophomore Hockersmith.

“Kenzie Hockersmith had a great freshman year last year and she is going to be better,” Nimmo said. “She is bigger and stronger and therefore hits the ball further. I think she looks more confident.”

Nimmo said the experience the golfers gained the last couple of seasons will benefit the team this year as it sets itself for a post-season run.

“There is more competition from top to bottom,” Nimmo said.

He said the team is confident heading into the season.

“We thought we were capable of making the state tournament last year and things would have happened differently. If we stay healthy, I think we would have,” Nimmo said. “So they should be confident again.”

Warrensburg opens its season hosting a tournament at 9 a.m. Aug. 24 at Hidden Pines Country Club.
