Crest Ridge girls 4x400m shocks Class 1 with state championship

The Crest Ridge girls 4x400m team of junior Emily Wilhite, junior Cam Martin, sophomore Kaitlin Bybee and junior Taylor Hurley claimed the Class 1 4x400m state championship on May 17 running a group-best 4:16.64 to win the event. The quartet is the All-Johnson County Girls Track and Field Athletes of the Year.

The Crest Ridge girls 4x400m team of juniors Emily Wilhite, Cam Martin, Taylor Hurley and sophomore Kailyn Bybee are the 2019 All-Johnson County Girls Track and Field Athletes of the Year.

The quartet claimed the Class 1 state championship in the 1,600m relay with a time of 4:16.64 — the group’s best time of the season.

The group finished second at the Class 1 Sectional 3 meet and won District 13 event as well as the I-70 title in the event.

Special Mention

Knob Noster senior Daeja Carter earned an All-Johnson County special mention with her performance in the Class 3 state track meet.

She earned All-State status in all four of her events while breaking three school records in the 100m, 200m and the 4x200m.

The senior took third in the 100m with a time of 12.25 and second in the 200m in 24.95.

Carter anchored the 800m relay squad to a 1:45.47 and helped the Lady Panthers 4x100m team to a seventh place finish.

Leeton — Kayla Crowder and Daphne Miles.
