Winnie, Dorothy J. 1933-2019

Dorothy J. Winnie, 85, of Centerview, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.

Dorothy was born July 30, 1933, at Richmond, Missouri; daughter of Christopher S. and Edith (Williams) Owens.

She resided in Marshall, Missouri, for several years.

She was united in marriage to Bennie L. Winnie on May 1, 1971, at which time, she moved to Centerview.

She opened Dorothys Hair Care in 1986 and she continued to operate it for many years.

Dorothy was a member of Northside Christian Church and Warrensburg Chapter #3, Order of Eastern Star. She also enjoyed craftwork, notably sewing and ceramics.

Survivors include: her loving husband, of 48 years, Bennie; five children, Lee (Sandy) Thornton, of Springfield, Missouri, Rev. Ron (Bonnie) Thornton, of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Catherine (Michael) Brodie, of Independence, Missouri, David Lee (Anna Marie) Winnie, of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Linda (David Leon) McCale, of Belton, Missouri; sister, Iona Ruth Mattox, of Warsaw, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her sister, Judy May Lake.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, at Northside Christian Church in Warrensburg, Rev. Sid Tiller officaiting.

Interment will follow at the Centerview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lee Thornton, Ron Thornton, David Lee Winnie, Keith McCale, Joel Thornton and Ryan McCale.

Visitation will be an Order of Eastern Star service 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 17, immediately followed by visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., both at the church.

Memorial Contributions are suggested to Warrensburg Chapter #3, Order of Eastern Star.
