WARRENSBURG — The Warrensburg Police and Fire departments responded at approximately 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, to the report of a vehicle in a building in the 600 block of N. Maguire Street.
Officer Kirby Carroll stated the vehicle, a Lexus ES 350, backed out of a parking space at Insight Eyecare, 608 N. Maguire St., struck another vehicle in the lot and continued on to jump a curb, missing a light pole and sapling tree. Carroll stated the vehicle then knocked down a handrail and jumped the space between buildings at 608 N. Maguire St. and 604 N. Maguire St.
The vehicle came to a stop crashing through a sidewall of the neighboring building.
Carroll stated the cause of the incident was most likely user error.
The driver, the only occupant, was assisted from the vehicle by the Warrensburg Fire Department, Battalion Chief Mike Flores said.
Carroll said the driver refused medical treatment at the scene but was later taken by a relative to be evaluated.
No injuries were reported.
City Building Official Brett Penrose was called to the scene to evaluate the structure before the vehicle was pulled out.
The top floor of the building is a retail space, accessible from Maguire Street, and is slightly downhill from Insight Eyecare.
The upper level of the building was vacant at the time of the incident and was being renovated.
The tenants in the lower levels were evacuated from the building for their safety.
Penrose said the building suffered significant damage and the entire building will be evaluated by a structural engineer.
