This is the early registration deadline for the Warrensburg Parks and Rec’s Freedom Fest 5K Run/Walk that will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. July 4 starting at the Warrensburg Train Depot on Holden Street. Register by this date to save $10 and receive a T-shirt. The cost is $45. Call (660) 747-7178 to register.

The Johnson County Community Health will be on the radio at 8:30 a.m. with 1450.

Members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Vacation Bible School program present Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Terrance Moody with a check Thursday, June 13, from money raised at VBS to help the church rebuild its outdoor sign that was recently knocked down. The sign had stood for more than 100 years before being knocked over. Members of the VBS said they are appreciative for all the Shiloh does for the community and wanted to help the church as it rebuilds the sign after learning it had been knocked over. Moody thanked each person in attendance for the contribution. The check presentation took place where the old sign once stood.

Murrays celebrate 60 years of marriage

Jerry and Judith (Jackson) Murray, Centerview, celebrated 60 years of marriage in May.

The couple was married May 31, 1959, at the Methodist Church in Grandfield, Oklahoma.

Jerry Murray is retired from the Shawnee Mission School District and Judith Murray is retired from the Raymore-Peculiar School District.

The couple has two children, Kelly (Alan), Kansas City and Bennett (Alice), Flushing, New York; and two grandchildren, Annette and Jackson.

WPD wins Battle for Blood

WARRENSBURG — Aided by a friendly competition, the Warrensburg Police and Fire departments collected 161 units of blood for the Community Blood Center on Friday, June 7.

Those who donated could vote for the WPD or the WFD in the annual Battle for Blood. The blood drive ended with 87 votes for the Police Department and 55 votes for the Fire Department.

The last blood drive, April 9, collected 119 units of blood.

The next blood drive will be Sept. 6 at the Warrensburg Community Center.

Parks & Rec schedules trip to Starlight Theatre

WARRENSBURG — Experience the amazing music of Carol King with songs like “You’ve Got A Friend,” “One Fine Day,” “I Feel The Earth Move” and “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman” in The Carol King Musical, “Beautiful”, on Saturday, June 29, at Starlight Theater with Warrensburg Parks & Rec’s Trips & Tours event.

“Beautiful” tells the story of King’s rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history.

The $65 fee covers the show admission and the round-trip bus ride, but guests must register by June 19.
